Gathered in the evocative space of the Sala delle Cariatidi at Palazzo Reale in Milan, now they also boast the Unique Virtual Image made by the 3D scanning of our Artmen.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One moment, three sculptures, same artist: the piet\u00e0s by Michelangelo. Tales carved by the Florentine artist\u2019s hands over three stages of his career and very different outcomes that depict, besides the tragic episode, his artistic and human growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of today, the historical plaster casts of the <strong>three piet\u00e0s by Michelangelo<\/strong>, the <em>Piet\u00e0<\/em> (1498-1499), the <em>Bandini Piet\u00e0<\/em>, (1547 \u2013 1555), and the <em>Rondanini Piet\u00e0<\/em> (1552-1564) are exhibited side by side at \u201c<em>The Piet\u00e0 by Michelangelo. Three historical plaster casts in the Sala delle Cariatidi<\/em>\u201d at Palazzo Reale in Milan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This extraordinary mounting appears consistent with the one in the now-closed exhibition at Museo dell\u2019Opera del Duomo in Florence. AerariumChain, in partnership with Scuola Beato Angelico\u2019s restorers (Re.BA), had the great responsibility of creating the <strong>3D scans of the three artworks<\/strong> to document their state of conservation, and objectively and extensively fill the Condition Reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"AEC for the exhibition &quot;Michelangelo&#039;s Piet\u00e0s. Three historical casts for the Sala delle Cariatidi&quot;\" width=\"1440\" height=\"810\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/az3yAb8cWbg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4>The history<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The three plaster casts, very exact copies of the original statues<\/strong>, create a unique and touching comparison between different aspects of the same topic through which Michelangelo\u2019s growth and interior drama reveal themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em>Piet\u00e0 <\/em>(1498-1499) is the first sculpture carved by a barely twenty-year-old Michelangelo. The tragic nature of the moment depicted becomes less important compared to the beauty of young Mary and the prime smoothness of the marble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second one, the <em>Bandini Piet\u00e0<\/em> (\u200b\u200b1547-1555), at Opera del Duomo in Florence, was carved by an elderly Michelangelo and expresses great artistic maturity, as well as his suffering: in the late 1940s Michelangelo engaged in an almost obsessive reflection on grief, death and faith, and this work, designed for his funeral monument, was accidentally damaged and irreparably hammered by Michelangelo himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And finally, his last artwork: the unfinished <em>Rondanini Piet\u00e0<\/em> (1552-1565), exhibited at Castello Sforzesco in Milan: the sculpture embodies the nature of the last stages of Michelangelo\u2019s career, who abandoned the ideal of beauty of the first statue to embrace the material and tragic realism. The portrait of pain conceived as two souls, Mary\u2019s and Jesus\u2019, merging into one last tender embrace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three plaster casts <strong>made to guide the restoration of the original statues, now fragile due to the perishability of the raw material and therefore subject to increased monitoring.<\/strong> <strong>On top of that, 3D scans<\/strong>, made by <strong>AerariumChain&#8217;s Artmen<\/strong> at Palazzo Reale, will generate a Unique Virtual Image of each artwork, providing a perfect digital fingerprint of its state of conservation to draw up an extremely objective and detailed Condition Report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The nature of the Piet\u00e0, carved multiple times by Michelangelo, shows itself for the first time in this exhibition and thanks to the Artmen\u2019s work will live forever unaltered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>#TheArtofForever<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three historical plaster casts of three undisputed masterpieces: the piet\u00e0s by Michelangelo.
